At this year’s Pacific Agriculture Show, BC’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, Pam Alexis, announced that BW GLOBAL’s Food Security Research was one of 13 AgriTech projects awarded funding and investment through Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan), BC Centre for AgriTech Innovation (BC CAI), and the Province of British Columbia.

These exciting projects represent a total investment of $2 million in AgriTech innovation that aims to solve critical challenges facing BC food producers, and growers worldwide, including with respect to Indigenous food sovereignty and training opportunities, soil heath, and pest and pathogen management.

As Dr. Kim, the Director of BCCAI, recognized, these projects “… will contribute to the advancement of B.C.’s food sovereignty….  We look forward to collaborating with these companies on projects and upskilling programs, positioning B.C. as a global AgriTech leader and addressing critical agricultural challenges.”

BW GLOBAL’s project pioneers cutting-edge methods to grow high-value outdoor crops indoors – crops which are under direct and potentially terminal threat from climatic and pathogen pressures in-field.  This project represents BW GLOBAL’s commitment to evolving  and innovating CEA (controlled environment agriculture) or CEH (controlled environment horticulture).

“Our work addresses the very serious food, energy, and water security issues facing BC and Canada, including remote and First Nations communities,” Timothy Kendrick, (President and Chief Designer of BW GLOBAL).  “With the support of BCCAI and the BC and federal governments, we believe that BW GLOBAL can quickly deploy these world-class technology solutions to every part of the world.”
